So You Want to Be On-air!

Volunteering at 100.3 Sound FM!

It's fun and fulfilling. All you need to do to get started is apply online. Once you have applied on-line, you will be emailed an access code and password to enable you to complete our on-line policy test. Then comes the training. During the course of training, you will be asked to produce a half-hour demo, which will demonstrate to the Program Coordinator that you have absorbed the basics of on-air production from the training session and are comfortable with operating the equipment. If you are comfortable, she is happy.

During training you will learn to get a show to air that is technically proficient, but that also fulfills the mandate of campus and community radio stations, which is radio programming that is not only innovative but  reflective of the diverse voices of our campus and surrounding community. This is pretty well the only radio station in town that goes beyond mainstream. Revel in it!

Once you have completed training, you will be given a slot as soon as there is one available that suits your schedule.

Most shows are what we call open format, which means that they are music programming. However, we are ALWAYS on the look-out for spoken word programming on practically any topic. These shows can range from 3 minutes in length (really!) to half an hour or an hour. Contact the Program Coordinator to discuss any ideas you have for these slots. They can include anything from sports to authors, to the environment and anything in between. We are especially interested in show and groups not currently represented, such as gay and lesbian groups, women's groups and disability groups.

If you would like a tour of the station before you decide to apply, please email the volunteer facilitator's at your.soundFM [at] gmail [dot] com.
